Referees
Kickball Tallahassee strives to keep games fun, fair, and friendly; something largely facilitated by our referees!
- Each game has a league-appointed Head Ref. These refs attend a pre-season clinic with league officials to sharpen their knowledge of the rules. They do their best to make the right calls, but at the end of the day, they’re human - so please be kind and respectful.
- To keep games running smoothly, each team is asked to provide 1 player per week to help ref during time slots in which they’re not playing. Player refs assist on the field on which their team plays during their off-time slot (eg. players who play at 7pm would ref at 8pm and vice versa).
We recommend that teams provide a player ref for two main reasons:
- It gives newer players a chance to learn the rules in a low-pressure ref position with the support of the league-appointed head ref.
- It improves game fairness by adding more eyes watching plays, reducing the chances of missed calls. No team wants to find it self in a situation where they are frustrated by what they feel is a missed call because there was only one ref to watch the play. Help your fellow players by providing them a better kickball experience, and they will do the same with you.
To assist both player refs and league-appointed refs, we've developed a GPT to help folks with making the right calls at the right time. With teamwork and good sportsmanship, we are confident that games will stay fun, fair, and hassle-free!
